The City of Fort Valley, Georgia, is seeking a qualified and dedicated professional to serve as its City Clerk. The City Clerk is the official record keeper and custodian of municipal documents and administers the City’s legislative processes. Appointed by and accountable to the Mayor and City Council, this position ensures transparency, legal compliance, and provides support to elected officials, City staff, and the public in accordance with the City Charter, Fort Valley Code of Ordinances (Municode), and the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.).

Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate for the Fort Valley City Clerk position has comprehensive municipal administration experience, including records management, legislative process administration, and compliance with state and local laws. A successful candidate will value transparency and public service and have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, balancing the needs of elected officials, staff, and the public. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparation and maintenance of official meeting agendas and minutes, administration of the Georgia Open Records and Open Meetings Acts, codification of ordinances, coordination of municipal elections, and oversight of assigned licenses, permits, and official records.

Minimum Qualifications:
The City Clerk should, at a minimum, have three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal administration, records management, or a related field. Applicants must possess working knowledge of the Georgia Open Records Act, Georgia Open Meetings Act, municipal law, and parliamentary procedure. Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills are required. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office, electronic records management systems, and agenda management software. The successful applicant must also be able to obtain the Georgia Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation within three (3) years of appointment.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with a range of $45,000-$50,000. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, along with a retirement plan.
