Middle Georgia Regional Commission is seeking to fill the position of Government Services Specialist Intern. A Government Services Specialist is responsible for assisting local governments in areas of community planning, economic development, local laws and ordinances, hazard mitigation, personnel management, environmental issues, transportation, historic preservation, and grant preparation and administration. The Government Services Intern works under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Administration or the Executive Director.

Internships through the Middle Georgia Regional Commission are meant to provide students and recent graduates valuable learning experiences and opportunities to make professional connections in the workplace. The Government Services Intern will be able to engage in a variety of activities regarding implementation of planning, community development, and public administration services for cities and counties in Middle Georgia. Internship duties may include work with personnel policies, pay plans, grant and loan applications, special planning projects, economic development, research, field surveys, data collection, data analysis, and participation in local government meetings. This position requires a talented individual who can engage collaboratively with local governments in a professional, resourceful, trustworthy, accountable, efficient, and innovative manner.

Qualified applicants should, at a minimum, be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program related to public administration, public policy, urban planning, or political science.

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented individual who can engage effectively with coworkers and community members in the process of providing quality customer service. Candidates should possess a strong vision and desire for facilitating positive change that moves the region forward. A candidate must be able to address challenges with enthusiasm and positive energy that demonstrates a love for the work of growing and improving communities.

Middle Georgia Regional Commission provides services to 11 counties and 20 cities in Middle Georgia through its office located in Macon, Georgia.
