The MGRC provides a diversity of services to the local governments of Middle Georgia.  Technical assistance is provided in the areas of planning, public administration, aging services, economic development and information technology.

In the area of Planning, the MGRC assists local governments to ensure compliance with the Georgia Planning Act of 1989 by updating comprehensive plans, establishing environmental ordinances and reviewing local land development regulations.  MGRC staff provide technical assistance in the areas of transportation planning, historic preservation, and environmental issues like  water quality and resource planning.  In addition, the MGRC coordinates with various state and local entities to develop and implement Source Water Assessment Plans (SWAP) and Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) plans for the streams and waterways of Middle Georgia.

The Public Administration division of the MGRC provides a wide array of services to local governments.  MGRC staff offer services in the areas of public personnel systems, budgeting and finance assistance, research and data development, and organizational management.  MGRC staff conduct Georgia State Clearinghouse Reviews (Intergovernmental Reviews) for federally-funded projects in Middle Georgia to ascertain and report negative impacts to the region.  Finally, the MGRC provides research, preparation, and administration services for a variety of grants potentially available to the local governments of Middle Georgia.

As the state designated Area Agency on Aging (AAA), the MGRC is responsible for coordinating the overall planning, administration and development of a comprehensive service system for the elderly of Middle Georgia.  Over $12 million in funding is managed by the AAA that is provided through the Older Americans Act and the Community Care and Services for the Elderly Act.  The MGRC administers the Community Care Services Program, a Medicaid Waiver, which is a cost savings to the State of over $13,000 per each client.  Finally, the MGRC serves as the "Gateway" (single point of entry for information about services and access to services) to community resources.  For more information on Aging Services, please email or call (478) 751-6466.

As the federally-designated Economic Development District of Middle Georgia, the MGRC provides vital Economic Development services to its member local governments.  The MGRC assists communities with industry/business recruitment, project development, and economic impact modeling.  Other services include the staffing and support of local and regional development authorities, offering innovative strategies to address economic decline and high unemployment, and assistance in the creation of business/industry incubators.  Also, the MGRC operates the Georgia Small Business Lender (GSBL)-- formerly known as the Development Corporation of Middle Georgia (DCMG)-- a Small Business Administration (SBA) Certified Development Company, to encourage economic growth through the provision of a variety of loans to small businesses in the region.  In all, the GSBL has made over $26 million in loans with a total investment of $80 million.  Since its inception, over 1,300 new jobs have been created.

The MGRC provides Information Technology based services to the communities of Middle Georgia in the areas of geographic information systems, global positioning systems, multimedia development, document imaging/archival, and web site development.  The MGRC maintains a regional database of digital map data containing a variety of GIS layers for use by Middle Georgia local governments.  MGRC staff use GPS satellite technology to map roads, facilities, infrastructure and other features, as requested.  GIS software is used to provide spatial analysis services regarding demographic trends, economic development, land use planning, environmental constraints, public safety and political boundary redistricting.
