The Middle Georgia Regional Commission (MGRC) was established through the enactment of legislation (commonly known as H.B. 1216). Effective July 1, 2009 and per the Official Code of Georgia (O.C.G.A) § 50-8-32 the Middle Georgia Regional Commission succeeded the former Middle Georgia Regional Development Center (MGRDC) established by the Georgia State Planning Act of 1989. Prior to 1989 and since its inception in 1965, the organization was known as the Middle Georgia Area Planning and Development Commission (MGAPDC). Membership in the Middle Georgia Regional Commission is mandatory for each county and municipality in the Middle Georgia region. The Commission's membership consists of 11 counties and 22 cities in Middle Georgia. The area consists of both urban and rural counties with Bibb County/Macon and Houston County/Warner Robins being predominately urban. |
